Lighthouse PCA is taking Marine Biology to new levels in 2019/2020
Joanna Johannes and her son, Collin Morris are both certified scuba divers. They both have a passion to move Lighthouse from basic marine biology lessons to real life, hands-on instruction.
In years past, a select group of students were taken to the Florida Keys to do underwater photography and snorkeling.
The plans for 2019/2020 include a renewed increased focus on marine biology. From beach cleanups to hands-on underwater instruction in the Florida Keys, Lighthouse has a renewed energy towards educating the youth about the beautiful waterways and oceans that God has created.
Lighthouse high school students will be given the opportunity to be locally instructed on underwater photography, fishing, paddleboarding, boating safety and snorkeling. Through monthly field trips to Navarre Beach and the Santa Rosa Sound, students with a passion for the water are going to have the ability to experience things that they never have before.
At the end of the semester and year, opportunities to go to the Florida Keys will be made available for them to visit the John Pennekamp park to see the Christ statue and the Alligator Reef Lighthouse in Islamorada for snorkeling, underwater photography and paddle boarding.
